ADonornnual Giving Campaign

The Annual Giving Campaign is critical to bridge the gap between tuition and the actual cost of an Incarnate Word Academy education and is the cornerstone of giving to the school. It is designed to promote unrestricted gifts and has specific goals that are targeted as the priority for each campaign.

IWA can put these gifts to use in areas where funds are most needed. This year's goal enable us to continue to advance our mission. The total dollar goal is $380,000 and the following priorities have been identified:

  • Advancement of the Incarnate Word
    Academy Foundation
  • Advancement of the faculty benefits
    package
  • Program enhancements such as,
but not limited to the following:

    • enhancement of the elementary level educational program (5th grade)
    • upgrade the middle level computer lab
    • enhancement of the middle level science/math program (6th grade)
    • implementation of a science lecture hall at the secondary level

Incarnate Word Academy Foundation

The Incarnate Word Academy Foundation was established in 1989. The Foundation is committed to the following: 1) scholarships and tuition assistance grants; 2) professional growth and benefits; 3) education for the future; and 4) enhancement and renovation of the physical plant. Currently, the market value of the Foundation is approximately $2.4 million. The long-range goal is to build it to $20 million. At this time, the foundation can fund only scholarships and grants. The other priorities will be fulfilled as the Foundation grows. Gifts include the following:

Scholarships
Scholarships are important to the school's ability to recruit a talented and diverse student body. Gifts may be contributed to the general scholarship fund or to an endowed scholarship fund and may be offered in memory or honor of a loved one.

An endowed scholarship is a permanent fund and requires a minimum gift of $10,000. Typically, there is a three to five year funding period. The scholarship will be distributed annually from investment earnings once the scholarship is fully funded.

Honor/Memorial
Memorials are gifts contributed to the Incarnate Word Academy Foundation that are made in memory of a loved one at the time of death. Many friends of the school choose to honor the memory of a loved one through a memorial gift.

Academic Chair
An Academic Chair is established with a gift to the Incarnate Word Academy Foundation as a permanent fund. The income from this fund provides supplement for the chair person's salary, the salary of other department faculty members, and additional income for supplemental programming that enhances the climate for academic excellence. Promoting a high level of commitment to faculty and staff training and curriculum development is essential to Incarnate Word Academy 's future as a school focused on academic success.

Adopt-A-Student

The Adopt-A-Student program is an opportunity for a donor to contribute a gift for a student's full or partial tuition.

Campus Ministry

The Incarnate Word Academy School Board, through its Mission Effectiveness Committee, acknowledges the creation of a campus ministry program as one of its goals. The creation of a campus ministry program will bring together many components. A program coordinator will be hired to integrate the existing religion classes, required class service projects, student service organizations, and retreat programs into a campus ministry program.

Operating and Infrastructure Needs

Operating an independent school, and striving to maintain the excellence in education for which Incarnate Word Academy is known, has real costs. Incarnate Word Academy must rely on the generosity of friends to fund these facilities that are vital to developing future leaders. Since moving to its current site in 1950, Incarnate Word Academy has developed into an extensive campus covering approximately 13 acres. IWA's physical plant consists of three schools located in five buildings, a multi-purpose center, a gym, a central office space, a cafeteria, and the convent. There is also a covered sports pavilion and an outdoor track and field area. A network of internal roads, parking lots, sidewalks, and maintenance facilities complete the complex. Repairs, maintenance, and upgrades to these structures and their supporting electrical and plumbing infrastructures are a constant need.

Capital Enhancement

One of the oldest buildings on the Incarnate Word Academy campus, the high school building is a beautiful facility with spacious classrooms, science and technology labs, and an art room. A music hall, gym and cafeteria surround an attractive patio. Built in 1755, maintenance and enhancement of the facility are currently needed.

Matching Gift Program

The Matching Gift Program is an excellent way to double the size of a contribution. Pleas check with your employer to see if your company provides matching gifts.

Campus Ministry Program

Incarnate Word Academy is committed to providing an education that is a transformational experience for faculty, students, and parents. In an effort to live out more fully Catholic social teachings, we wish to provide opportunities for knowledge and awareness of contemporary needs. A campus ministry program will enhance the school's ability to integrate education, service and reflection for creating a just and peaceful society.

PURPOSE

The purpose of the campus ministry program is to assist with advancing the school's mission by:

    • providing opportunities to respond to social justice issues
    • developing the spiritual lives of students
    • creating a viable structure and rhythm for community service
    • creating a climate and culture that link the experience of student life with community needs

COMPONENTS

Components of the campus ministry program are:

    • advocacy-empowering young people by giving them a voice and calling to responsibility and accountability around community issues
    • justice and service-involving students in actions of direct services to those in need and in efforts to address the causes of injustice and inequity that nurture a lifelong commitment to service and justice involvement
    • leadership development-developing strong Catholic student leaders in the variety of leadership roles
    • collaboration-involving a team approach and utilizing school and religious and community groups for accomplishing goals
