Dear Friends, As I begin my work as Incarnate Word Academy Director of Curriculum, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude for the welcome that I have received from so many folks. Many have wished me well in this ambitious task, and ambitious it is! It will be the focus of my work to continue to enhance the quality of teaching and learning by assisting members of our school community with aligning the curriculum, both vertically and horizontally, according to state and national standards, those standards set by The College Board (for AP and Pre AP students), those set by the Texas Catholic Conference Education Department, as well as focusing our efforts on content and skills mastery within each grade level and course discipline. As we seek to provide a “quality education for all of our students”, we at Incarnate Word Academy will continue to collaborate with one another to ensure that what we teach, how we teach, and the materials we use to teach are worthy of the young people entrusted to our care. Our first efforts will be devoted to developing an Outcome-Based Curricular Design from which we will develop course prospective for the following disciplines across the levels: Language Arts/English, Religion/Theology, Mathematics, Science, and Library Media Services. Within each of these areas, we will also work on critical and analytical reading and research, providing our students with practice in these crucial areas for success at each level of their education. I hope that you will find the links provided below to be a help to you as you continue to engage in what I consider to be the most difficult job in our society today: to be a parent. Please do not hesitate to contact me if I can be of some assistance to you. As before, should you have a concern with a particular teacher or curricular situation at any of the levels, please take those concerns to the individual teacher first, then to the respective Principal. Praised be the Incarnate Word! Sincerely, Mr. Charles D.
