Alumni Director

Diane Shumate Whitworth '70 is the new Incarnate Word Academy Alumni Director.  Diane has served on the Alumni Advisory Council for the last nine years.  Last year, she shared the responsibilities of IWA alumni director with Sr. Brenda Thompson.  Sr. Brenda recently retired after 20 years of dedicated service as alumni director and is now an archivist for the Congregation.

As IWA Alumni Director, Diane cultivates the strong relationship between IWA and our alumni to promote the mission of the school and to foster pride in our school's heritage.  In doing so, Diane assists with class reunions throughout the year.

Another key responsibility of the director is to generate financial support according to the strategic direction set by the IWA School Board of Directors.  In this capacity, Diane coordinates such events as the Alumni Phonation, the Alumni Memorial Mass and Luncheon, the Christmas Style Show and Luncheon, and the Annual Gala. 

Diane brings the perspective of an IWA alum to this position and she has an extensive background in education.  She spent several years as a volunteer for the community and Corpus Christi Independent School District.  She has worked as a financial aid counselor, development director, and math and business teacher.  Diane earned a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration and a Masters of Science Degree in Secondary Education from Texas A&M in Corpus Christi with certifications in Math and Business.  She is a member of the Texas Classroom Teachers Association and the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.
