Middle Level Athletic Program
The primary goal of the Incarnate Word Academy Middle Level Athletic Program is to direct the youth as they learn the amount of personal effort it takes to maximize their potential. Participation in athletics gives students the opportunity to enhance not only their personal attributes, but also to develop their social skills. Coaches strive to provide students with physical and mental skills and training through competitive athletics.
Athletic activities teach students to be productive, positive members of a team. The interpersonal skills and moral character that is developed now, lays the foundation for lifelong success in team settings and personal accountability. Young people learn to appreciate their team members and to respect the rules of the game, and they also learn to respect their coaches and teachers. Through athletics, students experience pride in their accomplishments and in their school.
Academics play a vital role in the eligibility of students who want to participate in athletics, whether at the middle level or the high school level. Students are guided to learn to balance sports and academics. Coaches continuously encourage students to excel in all classes and to stay current on all class assignments and homework. Students are frequently reminded that IWA strictly follows the no-pass/no play rule for athletic competition.
