| Angels to Compete at TAPPS State Swim Championships The varsity swim teams qualify to compete in the TAPPS State Swim Championships on February 13, 2015 after a successful meet at regionals on January 28, 2015. The state meet will be held at the Josh Davis Natatorium in San Antonio. At regionals, several students qualified to compete at state after placing in individual and relay events. | Sixth Grader Wins Middle Level Spelling Bee The middle level's spelling bee was held on January 30, 2015. KRIS-TV News Anchor Lee Sausley was the announcer for the school’s spelling bee. Sixth grader Catherine Thomas, the winner of the middle level’s spelling bee, will move on to compete in the South Texas Regional Spelling Bee on February 21, 2015 at the Congressman Solomon P. Ortiz International Center. The regional winner will compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. from May 24–May 29, 2015. | High School Level Basketball Teams are on Fire The girls’ varsity basketball team defeated Victoria’s St. Joseph High School 54-45 on February 3, 2015. The Lady Angels are currently in first place for district. On February 5, 2015, the varsity boys’ basketball team defeated Victoria’s St. Joseph High School 60-48. The Angels are currently in fourth place for district. | Middle Level Students Showcase Research at History Fair Students in sixth, seventh, and eighth grade participated in the middle level history fair on Friday, January 16, 2015. | High School Students Attend Texas Rally for Life in Austin Over 20 IWA High School Level students, along with other members of the Diocese of Corpus Christi and dioceses from across the state, traveled to Austin on January 24, 2015 to attend the Texas Rally for Life. The rally commemorated the 42nd anniversary of the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision made in 1973, which legalized abortion throughout all nine months of pregnancy. |

| Two New Buses Join Fleet With the help of a partnership of funds by the IWA campus, annual appeal, campus-wide booster club, and an anonymous donor, two new buses were added to the school’s bus fleet. All of the buses will be used to transport students to field trips, athletic events, mission trips, and other school-related activities. |
| Elementary Level Angels Soar on Basketball Court The fourth grade boys basketball team played against Seashore Middle Academy on February 3, 2015. The Angels won 16-8 during the first game and 20-6 during the second game. |

Zerr recently visited with high school level students from Sr. Raquel Newman’s and Sr. Judith Marie Saenz’s religious studies classes. Father Zerr talked about the Holy Order and his vocation. | Cathedral Youth Choir to Perform for Pope Several students, who are members of the Corpus Christi Cathedral Youth Choir, will perform for Pope Francis in the Vatican City for New Year's Day in 2016. The Cathedral’s choir is raising money for their trip with a Run to Rome race on February 14, 2015. This is the second time the choir has been chosen to serve as lead choir at the International Congress/Papal Mass. Over 6,000 youth singers from throughout the world and 23 choirs from the across the U.S. will participate. | Spirit Center Recognizes Students at Celebrity Dinner Several of our Angels volunteered their time and talents at the Spirit Center’s Celebrity Dinner on January 23, 2015. The Angel Band and Choir performed throughout the evening and four high school level students were honored for their outstanding service to the community: Jazzmin Hernandez, Mary McCullough, Christina Matl, and Joseph McNiff. In addition, celebrity waiters included our very own President and CEO Charles D. Imbergamo and Sr. Michelle Marie Kuntscher,'60. | Doctor Visits Classroom to Talk about Neuroscience Dr. Ernesto Guido, MD, a neurologist, presented a riveting study of the brain, its parts, and function to the upper level Montessori class. He spoke about how the brain plays an important role in sensation, intelligence, and memory. He also talked about the impact of brain injuries from sports. Dr. Guido also shared ways we can encourage brain plasticity—the brain's unique ability to constantly change, grow, and remap itself over the course of a lifetime. |
| Parents Talk to Students about Sacramental Marriage Daniel and Deborah Shea met with juniors and seniors recently in Sr. Raquel Newman’s religious studies classes to talk about how they live the Sacrament of Marriage. | Students Present Check to Good Samaritan Rescue Mission Middle level students recently presented a check of $510 to the Good Samaritan Rescue Mission, a faith-based homeless shelter in Corpus Christi. | Mock Trial Team Advances to State Mock Trial Competition The high school level mock trial team is headed to compete in the Texas High School State Mock Trial Competition in Dallas next month. The team made it to the championship round and finished in second place at the Region 2 competition on February 7, 2015 at the Nueces County Courthouse. About 100 students from 10 area schools participated in the regional competition. Senior Joshua Rasmussen received third place for best attorney and senior Pedram Salamat received fourth place for best witness — earning both of them cash scholarships.
