| Middle and High School Level Book Fair Begins This Week The Middle and High School Level Scholastic Book Fair will be held October 26-30, 2015 at the High School Level Library Media Resource Center from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. There will be a family night on October 28, 2015 from 4:15 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. with refreshments and a door prize! | Families Enjoy Spooktacular Festivities at Fall Fun Night The elementary level’s annual Fall Fun Night was held on October 23, 2015. Children enjoyed the petting zoo, pony rides, inflatables, and rock-climbing wall. The event was organized by the IWA Elementary Level PTO. | IWA Recognizes Bullying Prevention Awareness Week and Unity Day The entire IWA campus recognized October 19-23, 2015 as Bullying Prevention Awareness Week. IWA also welcomed guest speaker Michaela Flores who spoke about cyberbullying and Internet safety. The week included classroom discussions, projects, posters, prayer in classrooms, daily announcements, and orange ribbons across campus lockers. Students were also given orange anti-bullying sunglasses to show support for National Bullying Prevention Month. | Middle Level Science Fair Inspires Next Generation of Scientists The middle level science fair was held on October 16, 2015 in the school’s James R. Dougherty, Jr. Center. The school announced the science fair winners from each grade, most creative idea, and most attractive board. | Cross Country Team Place at TAPPS District Meet IWA hosted the TAPPS 4A District Cross Country Meet on October 17, 2015 at the school’s training site at Our Lady of Corpus Christi. The varsity and junior varsity girls’ cross country teams both earned first place. The junior varsity boys’ team earned third place and varsity boys’ team received fourth place. Jacob Gonzalez, Stevan Silva, Natalie Trevino, Remy Ellison, and Anna Simank received All-District honors. | Broken Heart Activity Teaches Importance of Using Kind Words Students in Mrs. Margie Lohmeier’s and Sr. Anne Brigid’s upper Montessori classroom learned how hurtful words and actions can break someone’s heart. The class read a story together on October 21, 2015 as part of Bullying Prevention Awareness Week. | Middle Level Introduces Students to New Atrium Classroom Middle level religious studies classes began meeting in the school’s new atrium classroom for Catechesis of the Good Shepherd. Students will meet once a week in the atrium classroom to learn about scriptural references for various teachings and liturgies. The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program began at the middle level last school year, but this is the first year the school has a classroom dedicated for the program. | Retreat Provides Seniors with Time for Reflection Seniors participated in a faith-based retreat on October 14, 2015 at the Pax Christi Sisters Retreat Center in Calallen. The retreat provided time for students to come together outside of the regular school setting to explore, experience, and reflect on the presence of God in their lives and to share this experience with one another. | Students Learn About Cyberbullying and Internet Safety Michaela Flores, project turnaround coordinator with the Coastal Bend Wellness Foundation, spoke to middle and high school level students on October 21, 2015 about cyberbullying and Internet safety. As part of Bullying Prevention Awareness Week, Flores talked about problems teens face after sharing personal information through texting, apps, and social media. | High School Level Recognizes Care of Creation Week In keeping with Catholic social teaching regarding humanity's responsibility to the environment as enunciated through papal and episcopal documents over the past 40 years, the high school level will recognize Care of Creation Week from November 1-6, 2015. Each day will focus on a key message conveyed through prayer and various activities. |
| CMSE Diocesan Course Required for School Volunteers Parents who are interested in volunteering with campus activities, clubs, or organizations, must submit an IWA Volunteer Application. This application includes a Criminal Background Authorization form and Criminal Background Check Validation form. In addition, volunteers are required to enroll in a CMSE (Creating and Maintaining a Safe Environment) Diocesan Course. Classes are available through various parishes and occasionally at IWA.
