Sister Catherine Café Received Blessing and Dedication

IWA welcomed parents, families, students and friends to its Mass, blessing and dedication ceremony of the school’s Sister Catherine Café on November 4, 2015. After more than 55 years of service and dedication to the school, the retirement of Sister Catherine Brehony, IWBS was recognized during Mass. From 1959 to 2015, Sister Catherine served as a teacher, department head, sponsor, counselor, and book store manager.

Double the Impact of Your Gift During the IWA Day of Giving

Each year, local non-profits celebrate a day of giving for the Coastal Bend community. IWA has received generous sponsorships that will enable the school to conduct a day of its own on Tuesday, November 10, 2015. Lady Angels Advance to Area Match Playoff Game

The Lady Angel Varsity Volleyball season came to an end on November 3, 2015 during an area match playoff game as the team lost 0-3 against Fort Bend Christian Academy. Before advancing to the area match, the Lady Angels won the bi-district playoff game 3-1 on October 29, 2015 against St. John XXIII College Preparatory of Katy, Texas. The team finished the season with a 20-15 record.

Lives of Faithful Departed Family and Friends Celebrated with Mass

Alumni, current families, and friends gathered at the IWA Chapel for the annual Memorial Mass on November 1, 2015. Mass began with a special memorial candle light procession. Names of deceased alumni were placed on the altar during Mass, along with the names of recently deceased grandparents, parents, spouses, siblings, and other loved ones.

Homecoming Will Kick Off with Pep Rally & Burning of the "A"

Join the fun as we gear up for the 2015 Homecoming events beginning on November 19, 2015. Students, faculty, staff, parents, alumni, and friends are all invited to attend the school’s pep rally, Burning of the “A” Ceremony, and an Alumni versus Alumni Basketball Game.


High School Level Recognizes Care of Creation Week

The high school level recognized Care of Creation Week November 2-6, 2015 as a commitment to the love for God, love for God’s people, and love for God’s creation. A key message to pursue a God-centered response to environmental challenges was the focus each day and was conveyed through prayers, various activities, and a poster contest. The high school level also reduced the use of electricity by reducing the use of lights in halls, offices, and classrooms.

Priests Talk to Students about Vocations

As part of National Vocation Awareness Week, several area priests visited with middle level students on November 2, 2015. They spoke to students about the priesthood and encouraged students to pray for those who are considering becoming a priest.

The Campus-Wide Booster Club Hosts Angelfest

The Campus-Wide Booster Club hosted its annual Angelfest on November 7, 2015. The evening featured a barbeque dinner, silent and live auctions, and entertainment by The Deadbeats. In addition, there was a mechanical bull-riding contest. All proceeds from the event benefited the IWA Athletic Department.

Lady Angels Place at TAPPS State Cross Country Meet

The Lady Angels earned second place, missing the first place title by one point, at the TAPPS State Cross Country Meet on October 31, 2015 in Waco. Junior Natalie Trevino finished in sixth place (15:28.4) — making the top 10. She was also named to the All-State Team and All-State Academic Team. The boys' team received seventh place at the TAPPS State Cross Country Meet. Junior Jacob Gonzalez was the boys' top finisher. He received 12th place (21:03.5).

Law Enforcement Officers Visit During Red Ribbon Week

Officers and agents from various local and federal law enforcement agencies met with elementary and middle level students on October 27, 2015 at the school’s James R. Dougherty, Jr. Center. Students saw different presentations by the officers and agents.

TABC Officers Visit with High School Level Students

TABC officers visited with high school level government classes on October 28, 2015 to discuss underage drinking and the various laws that are in place to help combat this growing problem.

Seniors Meet with St. Pius Students During Red Ribbon Week

Seniors visited with students from St. Pius Catholic School during Red Ribbon Week‬. The high school level students spoke about setting goals, faith in their lives, and getting along with others.


Elementary Level Prays the Holy Rosary

As October is the Month of the Holy Rosary, elementary level students, faculty, staff, and parents prayed the Holy Rosary on October 28, 2015 in the IWA Chapel.

High School Level Swimmers and Divers Hit the Pool

The high school level swim and dive teams competed against opponents in the same grade level at the CCISD Class Meet on October 23, 2015. The meet allowed swimmers and divers to learn where they rank among each other this school year. At the meet, the freshmen girls earned 6th place; freshmen boys received 7th place; sophomore boys received 8th place; junior boys tied for 11th place; and the junior girls received 12th place. “Everyone had great swims with excellent times,” IWA Swim Coach Mic Nelson said. The high school level swim and dive teams also competed in the annual Lamar Private School Meet in Rosenberg on October 30, 2015.  Both the Angels and Lady Angels finished in 11th place out of 18 high schools. 


Middle and High School Levels Host 'Monster Book Fair'

Incarnate Word Academy Middle and High School Levels hosted their Scholastic Book Fair from October 26-30, 2015. The “Monster Book Fair” was held at the IWA High School Level Library Media Resource Center. The book fair featured books and gift items for children and adults of all ages. Family night was also held on October 28, 2015.

Students Pray the Holy Rosary in Class

The Holy Rosary is meant to lead one into restful and contemplative prayer related to each Mystery. The gentle repetition of the words helps us to enter into the silence of our hearts, where Christ's spirit dwells. As October is recognized as the Month of the Holy Rosary, high school level students in Sr. Judith Marie Saenz's religious studies classes prayed the Holy Rosary on October 27, 2015.

Rabbi Visits with Upper Montessori Students

Students in Mrs. Lohmeier’s upper Montessori class are learning about the Holocaust. Kenneth Roseman, author and retired Rabbi of Congregation Beth Israel, visited with students on October 28, 2015 to talk about his personal account of being a young Jewish boy during the Holocaust.

Middle Level Angels Win Over Jet Hawks

The middle level baseball team jumped out to an early lead on the Jet Hawks and captured a 10-3 victory on October 29, 2015 at the National Little League field. The Angels exerted their will early with 10 runs in the first three innings.

Students Meet One-on-One with College Representatives

As the process of applying to and selecting a college becomes more and more competitive and complex, IWA is committed to providing students and families with college-planning resources. Throughout the school year, the high school level invites college and university representatives from across the U.S. to visit with its students to talk about admission requirements, course offerings, campus life, as well as other information pertinent to the college-selection process. Recently, representatives from Texas A&M University-College Station, Texas State, Trinity University, Southern Methodist University, and more visited with high school juniors and seniors. Kindergarten Classes Visit Assisted Living Center

Elementary level students visited residents from The Waterford at Corpus Christi, an assisted living center. Residents were excited to see such young faces as they went by to trick-or-treat for Halloween. Elementary Level-Traditional students from Mrs. McCracken's and Mrs. Ramirez's classes participated in this event.

Students Use Robots to Shoot Hoops

Middle level students in Mr. Ludlow’s robotics classes designed and programmed robots to shoot basketballs into a hoop. The class had a basketball shootout on October 30, 2015.

Physics Classes Learn More About Velocity with Marshmallows and Catapults

High school level students in Mrs. Villanueva’s physics classes built different types of catapults and trebuchets to test vertical and horizontal velocities of a marshmallow.  With a goal of hitting a target set at a specific distance, students enjoyed competing for accuracy and furthest distance.

Little Angels Go Trick-or-Treating on Campus

Elementary level tudents went trick-or-treating around the IWA campus on October 30, 2015. Administrators and staff greeted each of the classes with smiles and treats.

Students Compete at District One Act Play Competition

Several high school level students competed in the TAPPS District One Act Play Competition on November 3, 2015 at St. Michael's Catholic Academy in Austin. IWA performed “The Curious Savage” at the competition. Angela Hubbard and Caitlyn Martinez were named to the TAPPS District All-Star Cast, Vanessa Martinez and Bradley Thering were named to the TAPPS District Honorable Mention Cast, and Mark McCracken was awarded TAPPS District Best Tech.

Elementary Level Softball Team Shines Bright this Season

The season of the elementary level softball team is looking great. The team won 15-6 against the CC Extreme on October 29, 2015. The team’s next game is on November 9, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. against the Shockers. The game will be held at the National Little League.

High School Level Students Place at Texas Renaissance Festival

High school level art and music students competed at the Texas Renaissance Festival November 3-4, 2015. The band received third place during competition at the event. In addition, three art students placed in different art categories.

Skype Session Teaches High School Level Science Club about Volcanos

The high school level science club had a Skype session with a research vessel in the Pacific Ocean. Students learned about Tamu Massif, the largest single volcano in the world. This volcano has the same area as the state of New Mexico and is nearly the same size as Olympus Mons, which is the largest volcano in the solar system.
