IWA will recognize this through several events planned this week. The events include a campus-wide Mass, parent lunches with students, guest speakers, and class projects. During National Catholic Schools Week, schools focus on the value Catholic education provides to youth and its contributions to our church, communities, and nation. |

| Elementary Level Montessori Program Celebrates 50 Years Students, parents, families, former Montessori students, alumni, and friends celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Elementary Level - Montessori program from January 5-8, 2016. The week-long celebration included a Mass, reception, parade, and other classroom activities. In 1965, IWA launched the first Catholic Montessori school in Corpus Christi. Today, the school offers two tracks of elementary education, traditional and Montessori, for children age three through the fifth grade. | Fourth Grader Wins Elementary Level Spelling Bee Eighteen students competed in the Elementary Level Spelling Bee on January 21, 2016 in the James R. Dougherty, Jr. Center. | Lady Angels in Second Place Halfway through District Playoffs The Lady Angel Varsity Girls’ Basketball Team is currently in second place at the halfway point in TAPPS District play. The girls currently have a record of 8-1 in district behind Victoria St. Joseph who is 9-0. The team has compiled an overall 23-5 record to this point having finished in first place in the London High School tournament, second place at the Houston Christian tournament, and fourth place in the West Oso Roy Williams tournament. This season, the girls defeated four Houston teams in the Houston Christian tournament: St. Pius, Houston Episcopal, Second Baptist, and Houston Christian before losing to Dallas Greenhill in the finals. During Homecoming, the Lady Angels led Carroll 22-11 before succumbing to their press and ended up falling to the Lady Tigers. The team is currently ranked in ninth place in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC) Large Private schools category. |
| School Provides Students with College Planning Resources As the process of applying to and selecting a college becomes more and more competitive and complex, IWA is committed to providing students and families with college-planning resources. Some of the many ways IWA prepares its students for college is through several of its college visits, which are scheduled throughout the school year, and financial aid workshops. | Six Angels Sing for Pope Francis with Cathedral Youth Choir The Corpus Christi Cathedral Youth Choir spent over a week in Rome to sing for Pope Francis as part of the New Year’s Day celebration. Six out of the 110 members of the youth choir are IWA students. The group were among 5,000 choir members from around the world who were invited to perform at the Vatican. | Angels to Compete at TAPPS Regional Meet The High School Level Swim and Dive Teams will head to San Antonio on January 27, 2016 to compete in the TAPPS Regional Swim Meet at the Josh Davis Natatorium. Recently, the teams competed in the McAllen New Year's Classic from January 15-16, 2016. The girls’ team received ninth place and the boys’ team received 11th place. Elijah Wolfe earned third place in the 1-meter diving competition and Elizabeth Nicholson earned third place in the breaststroke competition. Elijah also received eighth place in the 100 fly. In addition, each team member helped score points to add to the teams overall totals. |
| Elementary Level Students Learn about Rocks and Minerals Local rock and mineral enthusiasts, Jerrold and Linda Simpson, shared their unique collection with Elementary Level-Montessori students in Mrs. Sonia Hall’s class on January 13, 2016.
