Campus Celebrates the Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord

The school held a campus-wide Mass on April 4, 2016 for the Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord and the Incarnation. The Mass was celebrated by Bishop Wm. Michael Mulvey. During Mass, the Sisters of the Incarnate Word and Blessed Sacrament renewed their vows. The event marked both the Sisters' and Bishop Mulvey's Feast Day. As part of our efforts to unite the school with our families and community, IWA also welcomed its grandparents and benefactors to celebrate and enjoy a reception after Mass.

Mission Team Serves Others During Holy Week

During Holy Week, the high school level mission team traveled to Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Falfurrias, Texas for their annual mission trip. As one of the corporal works of mercy and in response to the Gospel of Matthew, “I was thirsty and you gave me drink,” the students traveled to McAllen, Texas on March 21, 2016 to visit a respite center, which provides food and clothing to undocumented immigrants. The students also worked with the South Texas Human Rights Center to build and deploy 10 life-saving water stations on March 22, 2016 in designated Brooks County areas, and held a prayer service on March 23, 2016 for unmarked graves at a cemetery in Falfurrias, Texas. In addition, a group of students from the high school level mission team volunteered at the Mother Teresa Shelter and Salvation Army on March 24, 2016. Parents who are interested in volunteering with campus activities, clubs, or organizations must submit an IWA Volunteer Application and enroll in a CMSE (Creating and Maintaining a Safe Environment) Diocesan Course. Classes are available through various parishes and occasionally at IWA. The certification is for three years. The next class at IWA will be on April 7, 2016 at 4:00 p.m. in Room 107 in the high school level building. For more information, visit our volunteering webpage.

School Provides Students with College Planning Resources

As the process of applying to and selecting a college becomes more and more competitive and complex, IWA is committed to providing students and families with college-planning resources. Some of the many ways IWA prepares its students for college is through several of its college visits, which are scheduled throughout the school year, and financial aid workshops.
