CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS ARE SECOND IN STATE!

The varsity boys' and girls' cross country teams literally hit the ground running at the TAPPS 6-5A State Championship in Waco on October 29th as they earned second place! Senior Natalie Trevino received 3rd place in the girls' race and sophomore Mia Moore received 9th place. Both girls were named to the All-State First Team. Before advancing to state, both teams earned first place at the TAPPS District Meet which was held at the school's training site at Our Lady of Corpus Christi.

FOUR SENIORS NAMED NATIONAL HISPANIC SCHOLARS

High School Level Principal Jose Torres has announced that seniors Noah Alvarado, Aaron Benavides, Julio R. Ramos II, and Victoria Rangel have been named to the 2017 National Hispanic Scholars Program. Congratulations, Scholars!

ROBOTS SEEN SHOOTING HOOPS AT THE MIDDLE LEVEL

Middle Level students in Mr. Ludlow's robotics classes designed and programmed robots to shoot basketballs into a hoop. The class had a basketball shootout on November 2nd.

SCHOOLS CELEBRATE FOR
ALL SAINTS' DAY MASS

All Saints' Day, a holy day of obligation, was celebrated with Mass on November 1st. The day is dedicated to all the saints, known and unknown. On this day, the Elementary Level celebrated Mass in the IWA Chapel. In addition, the Middle and High School Level celebrated Mass in the Mother Patricia Gunning Gymnasium.

HOMECOMING TO KICK OFF WITH PEP RALLY & BURNING OF THE 'A'

Join the fun as we gear up for the Homecoming events beginning on November 17th. Students, faculty, staff, parents, alumni, and friends are all invited to attend the school's pep rally, Burning of the "A" Ceremony, and an Alumni versus Alumni Basketball Game and other events as we cheer on our boys' and girls' basketball teams at homecoming!

LADY ANGELS ADVANCE TO TAPPS AREA MATCH

The Lady Angel Varsity Volleyball season came to an end on October 28th during a TAPPS 6-5A Area Match as the team fell 0-3 against Holy Cross High School. Before advancing to the area match, the Lady Angels won the bi-district playoff game 3-0 on October 26th against Houston's Emery/Weiner High School. The team finished the season with a 19-12 record.

MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL LEVELS HOST BOOK FAIR

Middle and High School Levels hosted their Scholastic Book Fair from October 24th-28th. The "Bookaneer" Book Fair featured books and gift items for children and adults of all ages. Family night was also held on October 26th.

BLUE ANGEL SURPRISES CLASS

Elementary Level students in Mrs. Hall's classroom were surprised by a guest visitor on October 25th. Lt. CMD Daryl Marcus Dodd, a Blue Angel pilot and IWA parent, talked to the class about flying jets. The class also learned about the gear pilots use to fly.

SWIMMERS COMPETE IN
BACK-TO-BACK MEETS

The High School Level swim teams competed in the CCISD Class Meet on October 28th. The freshmen boys' team earned 5th place and the freshmen girls' team earned 9th place. The sophomore girls' team tied with Veteran's Memorial for 9th place and the sophomore boys' team received 10th place. The senior boys' team received 9th place and the senior girls' team received 11th place. In addition, the swim team also competed the next day in the Lamar ISD Private School Meet on October 29th. The boys' team received seventh place and the girls' team received 11th place.

ANGELS PRAY THE HOLY ROSARY

As October is the Month of the Holy Rosary, the Elementary Level prayed the Holy Rosary on October 26th in the IWA Chapel and the Middle Level created a Living Rosary in the James R. Dougherty, Jr. Center. In addition, Sr. Judith Marie Saenz's religious studies students created a Living Rosary in class.

HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL STUDENTS LEARN ABOUT JACOB'S LADDER

High School Level students in Sr. Judith Marie Saenz's religious studies classes created their own Jacob's Ladder, a staircase to Heaven with names of loved ones who have died. Students presented their projects on November 3rd in front of their class and they were displayed for all to see.

STUDENTS GO TRICK-OR-TREATING ON CAMPUS

Elementary Level students went trick-or-treating around the IWA campus on October 31st. Administrators and staff greeted each of the classes with smiles and treats. High School Level students also enjoyed passing out some treats to the heroes, princesses, and spooky characters.

GOLF TEAM TEES OFF AT SMITHSON VALLEY TOURNAMENT

The High School Level golf team competed at the Smithson Valley Tournament on October 31st. The boys' team played well with a 361-382 score. William Tiechman shot 72-77 and received fourth place out of 110 golfers. Other scores were Jackson Wallace 93-95, Charlie Uecker 93-97, and Andrew Martinez 102-113.

PRESENTATIONS EDUCATE ON RED RIBBON WEEK

Elementary, Middle, and High School Level students had several guest speakers such as a doctor, licensed professional counselor, D.E.A. agent, and sheriff deputy who visited during Red Ribbon Week. These speakers discussed the ill effects of drug use and abuse. In addition, students participated in different themed-dress days to show their support of Red Ribbon Week.

LITTLE ANGELS VISIT RESIDENTS AT ASSISTED LIVING CENTER

Pre-kindergarten and kindergarten classes visited residents from The Waterford at Corpus Christi, an assisted living center, on October 27th. Residents were excited to see such young faces as they went by to trick-or-treat for Halloween. Elementary Level-Traditional students from Mrs. McCracken's and Mrs. Risi Mortola's classes participated in this event.

DR. TROY L. CREAMEAN ESTABLISHES THE T.L. CREAMEAN SCHOLARSHIP

The IWA Foundation received a contribution of $10,000 in October from Dr. Troy L. Creamean for the establishment of the T.L. Creamean Scholarship as a tribute to his father and in memory of his son, Tyler Loren, who died at age 21 during Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2005. This scholarship will serve as a meaningful and ongoing way of honoring his father, T.L., remembering his son, Tyler, and supporting IWA in providing financial assistance to qualifying students.

As the process of applying to and selecting a college becomes more and more competitive and complex, IWA is committed to provide students and families with college-planning resources. Some of the many ways IWA prepares its students for college are through college application nights, financial aid workshops, and college visits scheduled throughout the school year, and other activities. ARTISTS SHINE IN PUMPKIN-DECORATING CONTEST

Mr. Kellogg's Middle Level art classes held a pumpkin-decorating contest on October 27th.

The contest was judged by several faculty and staff members.

COUNTY CLERK VISITS
HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL

High School Level students received a visit by Nueces County Clerk Kara Sands on October 14th. She met with students in Mrs. Seale's AP Government classes to encourage them to sign up to assist with the upcoming election.
