| | THIRD GRADERS CREATE BRACELETS DURING LENT | High School Level students visited with third grade students on March 2nd. The students taught the younger Angels how to create bracelets using thread and beads to represent Faith, Hope, and Love.

Several students hit the stage to sing, juggle, and more.

| | ANGELS CELEBRATE TEXAS INDEPENDENCE DAY | The High School Level celebrated Texas Independence Day with Western wear on March 2nd in the school's Angel Avenue Student Center. The celebration recognized Texas' independence from Mexico before becoming a republic over 180 years ago.

| | STUDENTS SHOWCASE TALENTS AT VISIONARIOS CONTEST | Several High School Level students submitted their works of art to this year's 2017 Annual Visionarios Youth Art Contest on February 25th. Senior Franceska Alvarado placed first for her piece titled "A Little Birdie Told Me…," which earned her a $100 prize and a $500 scholarship. Junior Ashley Elliott, who competed in the Photography category, placed second and won $50. Congratulations to all our Angels who competed in the contest! | | VARSITY BOYS' SOCCER RECAP | While their season may have ended with a loss against TMI on Saturday February 25th, the boys' varsity soccer team had an impressive season with an overall record of 7-7-1. Leading up to their TAPPS Area Playoff Game, the Angels displayed a lot of heart on the field with a 5-3 playoff win against Houston Second Baptist that culminated in a penalty-kick shootout. Leading in district play all season long, the team placed third with a 2-4 record and look forward to controlling their momentum going into next season.

| | MIDDLE LEVEL PSIA STATE QUALIFIERS | Several Middle Level students competed in the Private Schools Interscholastic Association Competition on February 18th in Victoria. Out of the 15 students that competed, six will go on to compete in the the PSIA State Competition which will be April 29th in Fort Worth at Texas State Christian University.

| | SOFTBALL TEAM SECURES TWO WINS IN TOURNAMENT | The varsity girls' softball team competed in the Fort Bend Christian Softball Tournament from February 24th-25th in Sugar Land. Playing in four games throughout the tournament, the Lady Angels were able to secure two wins out of four games, 5-2 against John Cooper School and 14-1 against Kinkaid School.

| | MIDDLE LEVEL STUDENTS CREATE PIÑATAS | Sixth grade Middle Level students in Mrs. Farrar's first and third period math classes created piñatas in order to experience real world examples of how volume and surface area are used every day. Using the formula for surface area to calculate the dimensions of each side of their piñatas, the students were then able to figure out the volume — in this case, candy — for their colorful creations. | | ANGEL TO PARTICIPATE IN SISTER CITIES PROGRAM | Congratulations to Carolina Muñoz who was one of six high school students in the city to be selected to participate in the Corpus Christi Sister City Program. This summer, Carolina will travel across the world to learn more about another culture.

| | MIDDLE LEVEL STUDENTS TAKE A STAND AT STATE HISTORY FAIR | Five Middle Level students who competed in the annual Coastal Bend History Day Competition have earned the opportunity to represent IWA at the Texas History Day Competition in Austin on April 29th. The National History Day Program encourages the active study of history through research and the analysis of student-selected topics. Original entries included:

| | ANGELS SERVE WINS IN FEBRUARY TOURNEYS | Congratulations to Michael Rock and Marcos Tapia, two High School Level tennis players who won first place in boys' doubles at the Aransas Pass ISD Tennis Tournament on February 23rd and placed fourth in the Calallen ISD Tennis Tournament on February 24th. Sofia Alexander won first place in girls' singles in Aransas Pass and first consolation in Calallen. Michael Orgill and Alejandro Carreno, who also competed in both city tournaments, placed third and won second consolation respectively.

| | UNIVERSITY REPRESENTATIVES VISIT WITH ACCEPTED STUDENTS | Representatives from Texas A&M University and the University of Texas in San Antonio visited High School Level seniors who had been admitted to their respective schools on February 27th. The reps met with students to discuss what was next in the application process, provided students with FAFSA financial aid package assistance, and answered any questions students had about their nearing collegiate futures. | | HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL SLIDES INTO MIRA'S COMPETITION | With strong showings in Katy and Banquette tournaments held earlier this season, the boys varsity baseball team were ready to test their mantle against some of the powerhouses in this year's Mira's Baseball Tournament. Facing the likes of King High School and San Antonio East Central High School, the Angels played well finishing the tourney with a 2-3 record and several outstanding pitching performances from Jesse Mireles, Jordan Salazar, Perry Burkett, Ronnie Canales, and Josh Guernsey. | | GOLF TEAM COMPETES AT 2017 LAREDO BORDER OLYMPICS | Congratulations to our High School golfers William, Charles, and Diego who competed in this year's Border Olympics Golf Tournament on February 24th and 25th at the Laredo Country Club and Max Mandel Golf Course in Laredo! William placed 3rd overall with a two-day total of 144.

| | HIGH SCHOOL TESTIMONIALS DURING NINTH GRADE DINNER | A dinner for incoming ninth graders and their families was held February 22nd in the Angel Avenue Student Center which provided those in attendance with first-hand testimonials on why Incarnate Word Academy is one of Corpus Christi's premier educational facilities. Testimonials from several current and former students included members of the Mission Team and 2016 Valedictorian Amber Cox from her dorm room at Baylor University.
