WELCOME BACK FROM SPRING BREAK
As we return from Spring Break, we would like to welcome all of our students, faculty, staff, and parents back to campus. We hope you enjoy reading this issue of ANGEL eNEWS.
ROBOTICS TEAM WOWS JUDGES AT REGIONAL TOURNAMENT
Middle Level students Julia Moore, Isabella Stanton Moretzsohn, and Allison Nornberg competed in the 2016-2017 Alamo East Regional FIRST Lego League Tournament on March 11th in San Antonio. The students wowed onlookers and received the Judges' Award for their performance as well as for their presentation. In addition, they received fourth place overall.

GIRLS' VARSITY SOCCER TEAM COMPETES AT STATE
After dominating district and area play all season long, the girls' varsity soccer team found themselves preparing for their biggest game of the season — the TAPPS Division II State Championship — against Grapevine Faith Christian. Despite a valiant effort, the Lady Angels were officially recognized by TAPPS as the Division II Soccer State Runner-Ups. The teams' district record was 6-0 and their overall record was 23-5-2.

NEW MARQUEE ON CAMPUS
A brand new electronic marquee was delivered and installed over spring break thanks to a generous donor. The welcoming addition to the Angel campus will soon be adorned with a brick base and we are working towards getting it fully operational. We are extremely excited about the new marquee and cannot wait to share the finished project with you!
NEXT CAMPUS-WIDE MASS SCHEDULED FOR APRIL
The campus-wide Mass, which was originally scheduled for March 24th, has been cancelled.
The next campus-wide Mass will be on April 25th in appreciation of our donors and grandparents.
LITTLE ANGELS PLACE
AT SPEECH MEET
Over 20 Elementary Level students placed at a speech meet on March 3rd at Annapolis Christian Academy. Students shared examples of scripture, poetry, dramatic interpretation, and patriotic pieces at the competition.

SENIOR NAMED AS NATIONAL MERIT SCHOLARS FINALIST
Senior Bradley Thering has been named as a finalist in the in the 2017 National Merit Scholarship Program. In addition, Marykathryn Charles, Eileen Paulson, Julio R. Ramos II, Bradley Rossiter, and Ian Simmons have been named as Commended Scholars in the 2017 National Merit Scholarship Program. Also commended for their achievements were seniors Noah Alvarado, Aaron Benavides, Julio R. Ramos II, and Victoria Rangel who were named as 2017 National Hispanic Merit Scholarship recipients.

STUDENTS ENCOURAGED TO REGISTER FOR CHESS TOURNEY
Attention all chess players: IWA is hosting the 2017 OCBCF Coastal Bend Grades Champion Chess Tournament on April 8th in the Angel Avenue Student Center. Students from kindergarten through 12th grade are encouraged to participate. The registration deadline is April 7th. A USCF membership is required for all participants.
STUDENTS TO COMPETE IN DIOCESAN SCIENCE FAIR
Several Elementary Level students will participate in this year's Diocesan Science Fair on March 25th after placing in the school's science fair on February 7th. The Diocesan Science Fair will be held at St. John Paul II High School. Judging will be from 10:00 a.m. to noon and public viewing of the student's science fair projects will be from 1:30-2:30 p.m. in the school's cafeteria. An awards ceremony will take place at 2:30 p.m. in the school's gymnasium.

VARSITY GOLFERS PLACE
AT RAY TOURNAMENT
High School Level golfers drove a wedge through the leader boards during the Corpus Christi Ray Golf Tournament on March 4th. William "Billy" Teichman won first place in the boys' division and Mikaela Rendon received 3rd place in girls' division. In addition, the boys' team — consisting of Justin Cavazos, Blake Herbst, and Nicholas Diego Elizondo — received 10th place overall.

ELEMENTARY LEVEL ANNOUNCES HANDWRITING CONTEST WINNERS
Elementary Level students recently participated in the Zaner-Bloser Handwriting Contest. The following students had their work submitted to the state level contest as representatives of their grade levels:

MIDDLE LEVEL HOSTS
TRACK AND FIELD MEET
The Middle Level hosted a track and field meet on March 9th at the Austin Street Athletic Complex. The boys' and girls' teams will compete next in the Wildcat Invitational on March 23rd at Gregory-Portland High School.

VARSITY BASEBALL TEAM
DEFEATS BRAZOSPORT
The boys' varsity baseball team defeated Brazosport High School of Freeport 6-5 on March 13th. The game was held at Minute Maid Park — home of the Houston Astros.

INDIAN FOLK DANCER
VISITS WITH CLASS
Students in Mrs. Sonia Hall's classroom have been studying world geography. The class, who is currently learning about India, welcomed guest speaker Pooja Bindingnavele on March 10th to discuss Indian folk dancing. The students watched a video and learned how dancers use ghungroos, an anklet with bells, during their dances.

MIDDLE LEVEL SWIMMERS
MAKE SPLASH AT MEET
IWA hosted the 5th Annual Angel Middle School Invite on March 4th at the CCISD Natatorium. Out of the 23 teams who competed, the girls' swim team finished in third place while the boys' team took eighth place.
ROTARY CLUB HONORS
TWO ANGEL SENIORS
Two outstanding seniors were recognized by the Corpus Christi Rotary Club for their accomplishments in athletics, academics, and their service as National Honors Society members. The two students were celebrated during a Rotary Club luncheon at Del Mar's Center for Economic Development on March 9th.

ELEMENTARY LEVEL STUDENTS
INVITED TO ATTEND CHEER CAMP
A mini cheer camp will be held from May 2nd - 5th with a public performance on May 5th at 5:00 p.m. in the Mother Patricia Gunning Gymnasium. The camp is open to IWA Elementary Level students from ages 6-11. The registration deadline is Friday, March 24th. For more information, contact Ms. Corina Parlamas at parlamasc@iwacc.org.
