Varsity Baseball 2018 Catholic Classic

ANGELS WIN DISTRICT OPENER IN CATHOLIC CLASSIC

In an intense back-and-forth game, the 2018 Catholic Classic mounted to a fever pitch when IWA's varsity baseball team took on St. John Paul II High School at Whataburger Field on March 28th. With each team only scoring once in the first inning, a stalemate ensued until the final moments of the tenth inning when our Angels brought it home with a 2-1 victory over St. John Paul II. What an exciting way to kick off their district season!

The Angels' next big game will be against Laredo's St. Augustine High School at 5:30 p.m. on April 6th at Corpus Christi National Little League Field.

Donations will be accepted from now until Friday, April 27th. By recycling your unused electronic device, we can help protect wildlife living in Central Africa whose habitats are destroyed daily due to mining for minerals used to create electronic devices. By recycling these items, we can also help divert battery waste containing harmful chemicals from our landfills, habitats and waterways. Please drop off donations at the Middle Level front office.

This year, our boys' varsity 400 Free Relay swim team (made up of Nicholas Hein, Drake Leeson, Jonah Lugo, and Gavin Vicknair) made it onto TISCA's top 24, rounding out the list at number 22. Nonranking Advantages

NONRANKING ADVANTAGES

To better serve our students as a college preparatory institution, IWA does not rank its High School Level students. This means a student's college potential will not be limited or determined by rank alone. It requires a college or university to make a holistic assessment of the student's application and potential based on the entire application package including courses, grade point average, essays, SAT/ACT scores, activity resume, and more. Students who might otherwise have been overlooked due to a ranking system are able to rise to the top in college acceptance consideration with this holistic review. Benefits of nonranking can easily be seen in the number of IWA students accepted to Texas A&M University and the University of Texas (last year 44% and 33% respectively---far exceeding their automatic admittance standards). For more information regarding the advantages of nonranking, please visit our Nonranking Q&A or contact High School Level counselor Sherilyn Calhoun at calhouns@iwacc.org or call 361-883-0857 ext. 167.
