OCTOBER 2, 2018 | ANGEL eNEWS BLESSING AND DEDICATION OF NEW MONTESSORI IWA celebrated the completion of the second and final phase of its Enlighten, Inspire, and Strengthen Campaign with a blessing and dedication ceremony on September 26th. Over 300 community members joined IWA as Bishop Wm. Michael Mulvey blessed the 14,000-square-foot Hilliard Montessori Building, its seven classrooms, and the new Memorial Rosary Garden.
The Memorial Rosary Garden contains a beautiful walking rosary path created in memory of three Angels, Leighton Elizabeth McComb, Jonathan Andrew McComb, and William Oliver Rumley. A live oak tree was also planted within the garden in memory of Angel Alum Ted "Trey" Turner III '12.

INVITE SOMEONE YOU KNOW TO ANGELTALK Know someone who is interested in learning about the exceptional scholastic opportunities that Incarnate Word Academy has to offer? IWA welcomes new, prospective families (age 3 – 12th Grade) to attend its second annual AngelTALK on October 17th. This event will include a panel discussion with students, administration, alumni, and current/past parents talking about their experiences at IWA and answering questions for audience members. IWA will be giving away three (3) $1,000 tuition vouchers to prospective families at each campus level. This drawing will be for new families only. Families participating in the raffle must be present to enter for a chance to win.

BULLYING ENDS WITH ME October is National Bullying Prevention Month. Incarnate Word Academy is uniting with the rest of the nation to encourage others to take an active role in the bullying prevention movement. IWA will observe National Unity Day on October 24th, where students are encouraged to come together and wear orange to show a message of support, hope, and unity.

JOIN US DURING ELEMENTARY LEVEL'S BIGGEST FUNDRAISER The Elementary Level's annual Fall Fun Night, the school's single biggest fundraiser of the year, is right around the corner. We encourage all IWA families to invite family and friends to this fun event on October 12th from 5:00-8:00 p.m. in the James R. Dougherty, Jr. Center parking lot. There will be: moon jumps, a bake sale, rock wall, face painting, pony rides, petting zoo, live entertainment, and more! For information, visit our Fall Fun Night webpage.

VOLUNTEER TODAY! Creating and Maintaining a Safe Environment (CMSE) Diocesan training course for the 2018-2019 school year will be on October 6th at 10:00 a.m. in Room 101 of the High School Level.
Parents who are interested in volunteering with campus activities, clubs, or organizations, must submit an IWA Volunteer Application. This application includes a Criminal Background Authorization form and a Criminal Background Check Validation form.

IWA CELEBRATES THE MEMORY OF DR. HECTOR P. GARCIA In celebration of his life, the Elementary level hosted a special memorial Mass for renowned Mexican-American civil rights leader Dr. Hector P. Garcia on September 19th in the IWA Chapel. Cecilia Garcia-Akers '70, daughter of Dr. Garcia and president of the Dr. Hector P. Garcia Memorial Foundation, presented a check for $2,000 on behalf of the foundation to be used as tuition assistance for IWA families.

ANGEL BUDDIES MEET FOR FIRST SPIRITUAL PROJECT Students at the Elementary Level met with their eighth grade Angel Buddies for the first time this year on September 18th in the new Atrium for the Catechesis of the Good Shepard. Together, Angel Buddies designed their very own beautiful crosses. Elementary and Middle Level Angel Buddies meet several times a year to develop spiritual kinships, build friendships between school levels, and provide younger students with positive role models through various fun and faith-based activities.

MIDDLE LEVEL STUDENTS ROCK THEIR SCHOOL IWA's Middle Level joined thousands of educators across the nation during the Get Your Teach On (GYTO) Rock Your School Day on September 20th.
GYTO's Rock Your School Day is part of a global movement focused on creating outside-the-box educational experiences for students in order to capture students' attentions and imaginations.
Throughout the day, Middle Level teachers transformed their classrooms and rolled out the red carpet for their rockstar students engaging in several fun events including a safari themed escape room, an 80's themed wellness spin class, a lunchtime karaoke session, and several other fun events.

HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL BLASTS OFF DURING FIRST PEP RALLY The High School Level celebrated their school spirit blasting off with a special space themed pep rally on September 19th in the Mother Patricia Gunning Gymnasium. During the pep rally, Angels were introduced to IWA's 2018-2019 Cheerleading Squad, recognized the High School Level's JV and Varsity cross country and volleyball teams, and competed in the annual tug of war competition.

DONORS RECOGNIZED THROUGH NEW MONTESSORI TILE WALL The donor recognition wall for our Enlighten, Inspire, and Strengthen Campaign is complete! Please stop by the Catherine & Bob Hilliard Montessori Building to take a peek at this one-of-a-kind design created by Aloe Tile. This exquisite art installation is located on the exterior brick wall of the Amor Meus Atrium.

GUEST SPEAKER SHOWS ANGELS THE SECRETS TO SINGING Middle and High School Level students taking Mrs. Lumley's Music Appreciation class learned several new techniques from guest speaker Stacey Stark, a professional singer and instructor. During the class, Angels learned about the power of their diaphragm muscles, how to breath properly, how to project their voice, and proper enunciation.

SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR BRINGS JOY TO ELEMENTARY FAMILIES Elementary Level students were magically whisked away during the school's Enchanted Forest Scholastic Book Fair which began on September 24th. This year's book fair featured books and gifts for Angels of all ages with a percentage of purchases benefiting the Elementary Level Library Media Resource Center. Parents and guardians were able to join their little Angels to cross off their book wish lists during the Muffins for Mom and Doughnuts with Dad events.

STUDENTS TAKE BIG STRIDES DURING COLLEGE VISITS Throughout the school year, IWA is committed to providing students and families with college-planning resources such as visits with college admission representatives, college application nights, financial aid workshops, and other activities. Students interested in attending a scheduled college visit or activity should register with Naviance.

IWA TO HOST ZUMBA CLASS Looking for a fun way for your Angels to stay fit? IWA will host Zumba instructor Abdiel Salgado during Zumba Kids Master Class to benefit the Kids Get Fit program at IWA on October 19th. This event is a service project for the Elementary Level Student Council. Tickets are available for $10 at the Elementary Level Front Office and will also be available at the school's annual Fall Fun Night on October 12th.
