CFRE International has named IWA President Charles D. Imbergamo as a Certified Fund Raising Executive. Mr. Imbergamo joins more than 5,300 professionals around the world who hold the CFRE designation.

Campus-Wide Booster Club Holds General Meeting

All parents of athletes are invited to attend the Campus-Wide Booster Club General Meeting on September 8, 2014 in the high school level's Mother M. Patricia Gunning Gymnasium from 6:00 - 6:30 p.m. Participation in the Campus-Wide Booster Club benefits all student athletes at all levels.

The campus commemorates the anniversary of 9/11 and the Feast Day of Jeanne Chezard de Matel, the founder of the Sisters of the Incarnate Word and Blessed Sacrament, with a Campus-Wide Mass on September, 11, 2014. A schedule of classroom activities will be available soon.


Students Attend Diocesan
Back-to-School Mass

Fifth, eighth, and twelfth grade students celebrated a Back-to-School Mass on August 26, 2014 at the Corpus Christi Cathedral with Bishop Michael Mulvey. The Mass is celebrated every year for all schools within the Diocese of Corpus Christi.

Angels Collect Items for Refugee Families from Central America

Students from the elementary, middle, and high school levels collected toiletry items, gently used backpacks, tote bags, and cash donations as part of the school's "Whoever Welcomes a Child" service project. The items and voluntary cash donations, which were taken to a temporary crisis center in McAllen, will help many refugee children and their families coming in from Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras.

Geoscientist Visits Elementary Level-Montessori Classroom

Stephen Thomas, who is an IWA parent, board member, and also a geoscientist, recently visited Mrs. Lohmeier’s and Sr. Anne Brigid’s upper Montessori classroom. He shared his expertise in geology and geological time with the students who studied eras and periods as part of earth sciences. Mr. Thomas brought rocks, fossils, and a mammoth femur to share with the class. Students were able to see up close a fossilized trilobite from the Cambrian Period and start their very own rock collection with the rocks.

Counselor Visits Elementary Level-Traditional Classroom

Kindergarten students engaged in a guidance lesson with Elementary Level Counselor Mrs. Carla Barnett on August 25, 2014. Using a familiar toy, Mr. Potato Head, the children were introduced to the ways a counselor helps them. For example, Mrs. Barnett placed eyes, ears, and mouth on Mr. Potato Head and shared that counselors see, listen, and speak to help and guide us.


Experiment Inspires Next Generation of Scientists

Seventh graders in Mrs. Hill’s science class participated in an experiment on August 26, 2014 using two film canisters. Students had to create a hypothesis on which canister would pop first.

High School Level Hosts Blood Drive

Over 30 students, faculty, staff, and members of the community donated blood at the high school level’s blood drive on August 26, 2014. Thank you to all who donated to save a life!

School Hosts Back-to-School and Follow-the-Schedule Nights

Parents had an opportunity to meet teachers, and to be a student again, as the school recently invited them to attend their children’s classrooms. The elementary level held a Back-to-School Night, while the middle and high school levels each held a Follow-the-Schedule Night.

President is Guest on KLUX's Labors of Love Talk Show

KLUX 89.5 FM's Labors of Love invited President and CEO Charles D. Imbergamo to be a guest on August 24, 2014.

President Imbergamo talked to the show's host Margaret Alarilla, Director of Religious Education for the Diocese of Corpus Christi, about his role as president, Catholic education, and Incarnate Word Academy.

Athletic Prayer Breakfast Encourages Honorable Sportsmanship

Student-athletes kicked off the school year in prayer at the school’s annual Athletic Prayer Breakfast on August 16, 2014 at the James R. Dougherty, Jr. Center. Father David Bayardo, an IWA alumnus from the class of 2003, was the event's guest speaker.

Students enjoyed food, dancing, and making new friends at a student social on August 15, 2014. The event was held in the James R. Dougherty, Jr. Center and was sponsored by the Middle Level PTO.

Grand Opening of New Training Site Debuts at Angel Mile Run

Students from all school levels, families, faculty, staff, and alumni participated in the 8th Annual Angel Mile, which was held at Our Lady of Corpus Christi on August 23, 2014. The new training site, which includes a one-mile trail, offers a safe training environment for student-athletes to run on. At the new training site, Father Dan Estes, SOLT recited a blessing with all in attendance.
