Lady Angels and Senior Jared Coco Win TAPPS State Cross Country Championship Titles

The varsity girls’ cross country team earned the TAPPS State Championship Title after placing first in the 4A division at the state meet on October 25, 2014.

The girls won the title with 97 points, and two Lady Angels placed in the top 10 – Christina Matl and Samantha Simank.

In addition, senior Jared Coco was named a TAPPS State Cross Country Champion after he placed first in the boys’ 4A division.

The IWA varsity boys’ cross country team placed second overall. Three boys placed in the top 10 – Jared Coco, William Anthony Nicholson, and Stephen Parlamas.

Each year, local non-profits celebrate a day of giving for the Coastal Bend community. We have received a generous sponsorship that will enable us to conduct a day of our own. Several faculty and staff were recognized November 3, 2014 for their years of service in Catholic education at the Diocesan Catholic Educators Conference. Among those recognized was Sr. Catherine Brehony for celebrating 60 years.

Families Enjoy Festivities at Fall Fun Night

The elementary level’s annual Fall Fun Night was held on October 24, 2014.

Children enjoyed the petting zoo, pony rides, inflatables, and rock-climbing wall.

The event was organized by the IWA Elementary Level PTO.

All proceeds from Fall Fun Night will benefit the IWA Elementary Level.

Science Fair Inspires Next Generation of Scientists

The middle level science fair was held on October 17, 2014 at the school’s James R. Dougherty, Jr. Center.

The school was excited to welcome teachers, students, and families to view science projects from sixth, seventh and eighth grade students.

Angels Recognize Month of the Holy Rosary

As the month of October was dedicated to the Holy Rosary, middle level students created a living rosary on October 23, 2014 in the James R. Dougherty, Jr. Center. At the high school level, students prayed the rosary in their religious studies classes. Elementary level - traditional students in Mrs. McCracken’s classroom learned how to pray the Holy Rosary. The class prayed one Station of the Cross each day at different locations on campus.

Kindergarten Classes Visit Assisted Living Center

Elementary level students visited residents from The Waterford at Corpus Christi, an assisted living center. Residents were excited to see such young faces as they went by to trick-or-treat for Halloween.

Elementary Level-Traditional students from Mrs. McCracken's and Mrs. Ramirez's classes participated in this event.

Students Create Veils to Celebrate Dia de Los Muertos

In celebration of Dia de los Muertos, the middle level Spanish club created veils using artificial flowers, headbands, tulle, and their own creativity.

High School Level Raises Awareness During Care of Creation Week

The high school level recognized Care of Creation Week from October 20-24, 2014 in keeping with Catholic Social Teaching regarding humanity’s responsibility to the environment.

Students enjoyed a presentation from guest speaker Meteorologist Maclovio Perez, from KRIS-TV – Channel 6.

Each day, a key message was conveyed through prayer, various activities, and events such as a poster contest, solar car race, science lab demonstrations, and more.

Campus Recognizes Bullying Prevention Awareness Week and Unity Day in October

Incarnate Word Academy united with the rest of the nation to raise awareness and encourage others to take an active role in the bullying prevention movement. The entire IWA campus recognized October
20-24, 2014 as Bullying Prevention Awareness Week.

In an effort to put a stop to bullying, the school invited everyone to join their virtual Unity Day Facebook Event to show support.

Elementary & High School Level Come Together for Science Night

The elementary level hosted a Science Night on October 29, 2014.

With help from the high school level Science Club, elementary level students and parents were able to participate in hands-on experiments and learn about the scientific method.

Sophomore Meets Professional Golf Legend Nancy Lopez

Mikaela Rendon was one of two high school students in the state of Texas to be selected to meet and play golf with women’s professional golf legend Nancy Lopez.

The Angel golfer attended the National Hispanic Sports Hall of Fame Awards in San Antonio, where Lopez was inducted into the National Hispanic Sports Hall of Fame.

Seventh Graders Visit UT Marine Science Center

Seventh grade students traveled to Port Aransas on October 21 and 22, 2014 to visit the UT Marine Science Center. Students found and examined different specimens found on the trip, walked along the beach, and more.

High School Level Students Participate in Retreats

Sophomores traveled to the Pax Christi Liturgical Retreat Center in Calallen on October 29, 2014 for their class retreat. Seniors attended a similar retreat on October 15, 2014. Retreats such as this provide an opportunity for students to take a step back from their regular school work in order to focus more intently on their relationship with God and with one another.

Angels Prep for SAT and PSAT Exams Over Fall Break

Some high school level students participated in an SAT and PSAT preparatory course over fall break to gear up for exams. Students later took their PSAT exams on October 15, 2015.

 


College Visits

College representatives from the University of Notre Dame, Baylor University, and Southwest School of Art were on campus to discuss admission requirements, course offerings, campus environment as well as any questions students had.
