Guest Speaker to Discuss Online Safety

In the digital age we live in, students must be observant, engaged, and informed of the content that they digest. In preparation of National Bullying Prevention Week, Incarnate Word Academy is excited to have guest speaker and founder of the Protect Young Eyes program, Chris McKenna, visit our campus to speak to High School and Middle Level students on September 21, 2017.

McKenna will be speaking to Middle Level students from 8:55 a.m. to 9:55 a.m. and High School Level students from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the Mother Patricia Gunning Gymnasium.

After a 12-year career in business advising and six years in full-time Middle School ministry, McKenna is now the Educational Resource Manager for Covenant Eyes, an Internet Safety and Accountability Company. In 2015 he created Protect Young Eyes as a way to equip and encourage parents and students toward responsible use of technology.

During his presentation, McKenna will be discussing digital realities, strategies, and practical solutions that will enlighten, equip, and encourage students to use technology responsibly.

Parents are welcome to attend both presentations as well as a presentation specifically for them at 6:00 p.m. September 21, 2017 at St. Pius X Catholic School, 737 St. Pius Dr.

Incarnate Word Academy aims to raise awareness and encourage others to take an active role in bullying prevention by utilizing an online bullying submission form and having teachers regularly integrate online safety and bullying prevention into their curriculum.

In doing so, IWA will recognize October 16-20, 2017 as Bullying Prevention Week. We invite students, faculty, staff, parents, and the entire IWA community to wear orange on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 in recognition of National Unity Day. The message: “Make it Orange and Make it End.”

IWA’s involvement in National Bullying Prevention Month illustrates the school’s recognition of God’s blessings and commitment to sharing them with others in school, family, Church, and the community.
