Elementary Students Usher in Lent with Mardi Gras Party
With a surprise guest appearance by the sun that brought a patch of beautiful weather, IWA Elementary Level students, parents, teachers, and even Principal Sr. Camelia celebrated the day before Lent was to commence with a Mardi Gras party.
Party revelers sported traditional Mardi Gras ball masks and beads and enjoyed a huge spread of traditional Fat Tuesday dishes along with good ol’ south Texas Tex-Mex favorites.
Students learned about the significance of Fat or Shrove Tuesday in respect to the Lenten season. “We learned about the colors of Mardi Gras,” says K4 student Samantha Stillman. “Gold is for strength, green is for grass [growth in faith] and purple is justice. And Mardi Gras is really fun.”
