MIDDLE LEVEL NATIONAL JUNIOR HONOR SOCIETY

Membership in Incarnate Word Middle Level Elizabeth Ann Seton Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society is open to students who have attended Incarnate Word Academy Middle Level for at least one semester and are either seventh or eighth graders.

There is no right to membership; it is a privilege bestowed upon a student by the faculty of the school. Students do not apply for membership to the National Junior Honor Society. It is not an election, nor is membership automatically conveyed simply because a student has achieved a specified level of academic performance. The four additional components, leadership, service, citizenship, and character are equally as important as scholarship.

The scholarship requirement is based on the student's cumulative grade point average and must be no lower than 95. Students also cannot receive anything lower than an S in attitude. When students are selected during their seventh grade year, grades from that year are used to compute the scholastic average. When selected during the eighth grade year, grades from eighth grade are used to compute the average.

Membership is granted only to those students selected by the Faculty Council who carefully weigh each student's accomplishments in the remaining four components: leadership, service, citizenship, and character as demonstrated by their actions, attitude and viewed by the faculty.

According to National Honor Society guidelines, "The student can be sent a note saying he/she was not selected and no further explanation is required." Questions concerning non-selection should be addressed to the school principal.

Continued membership in the chapter is based upon the student's maintaining the same scholarship, leadership, service, citizenship, and character requirements. For more information contact the office.
