Assistant Athletic Director/Head Football Coach

The Assistant Athletic Director supports the development, management, coordination and
supervision of the athletic program for the three school levels of Incarnate Word Academy, helping to create an
environment that allows students to achieve their academic and athletic potential while ensuring that athletic
activities reflect the mission and philosophy of Incarnate Word Academy.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


1. Athletic Programs

• Assists with the supervision, coordination and evaluation of the campus wide athletic program
and works closely with the Athletic Director.
• In conjunction with coaches, coordinates and schedules interscholastic events.
• Strives to maintain good order in the supervision of the conduct of players, coaches and fans.
• Attends all athletic events (as feasible), working with AD to ensure coverage at games (athletic
leadership, administrator, police if necessary, sports trainer).
• Coordinates schedule, facilities, and game day operations.
• Assist the Athletic Director in AD/Coaches meetings.
• During the summer months, available to new (or prospective) students and their families (when
the AD is not available) to represent the athletic program and answer questions.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director.

2. Coaching Staff

• Collaborates with the Athletic Director to recruit and hire coaches.
• Helps oversee and evaluate the work of all coaches.
• Meets regularly with head coaches and provides a copy of agenda/meeting notes to the Athletic
Director.
• Attends all meetings for the athletic department and coaching staff as deemed necessary.
• Keeps all coaches informed of all TAPPS bulletins and information relevant to their sport.
• Helps educate coaches and other representatives on the proper procedures for supervising athletic
events.

3. Administrative and Other Responsibilities

• Assists Booster Club president and officers with all Booster Club events.
• Coordinates and attends special events as needed.
• Assists with budgeting, financial management, and purchasing for the dept.
• Inventories, inspects, and recommends replacement and/or additions to ensure adequate
equipment, uniforms, etc.
• Be able and willing to provide emergency care; maintain CPR-First Aid-AED certifications;
engage professional emergency personnel (911) if needed; know where automated external
defibrillators (AEDs) are located on campus.

4. Coaching Responsibilities

• The Head Coach instructs in fundamental skills, strategy and physical training necessary for
student athletes to realize a degree of individual and team success. At the same time, the student
shall receive instruction that will lead to the formulation of the moral values expected of
Incarnate Word Academy school athletes, pride of accomplishments, acceptable social behavior
(on and off the playing field/court), self –discipline and self-confidence.

• Has a thorough knowledge of all athletic policies approved by the principal arid is responsible
for implementation of these policies in his/her program.
• Has knowledge of the existing school, state and district regulations; implements the same
consistently, and interprets them for his/her staff.
• Understands the proper administrative line of command and refers all requests through proper
channels. Attends to all public/staff/departmental meetings that require his/her attendance.
• Trains and informs staff, encourages professional growth by encouraging clinic attendance
according to overall program needs.
• Delegates specific duties, supervises implementation, and at season’s end analyzes staff
effectiveness and evaluates all assistants with the athletic director.
• Assists the Athletic Director in scheduling, providing transportation, and obtaining other
requirements for tournaments, meets and special athletic events.
• Assists in necessary preparation to hold scheduled athletic events; adheres to facility use times
and recommended practice schedules. Coordinates program with the athletic director, and as
necessary maintenance and school employees.
• Prepares and confirms practice or contest site for use.

REQUIRED SKILLS

• Knowledge of coaching best practices.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Proficient in using technology and financial budgeting.
• Proven ability to maintain a high level of productivity.
• Energetic and enthusiastic about the organization.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management or a related field
• Minimum of two years as teacher or physical education field
• Previous coaching experience
• Or an equivalent combination of education experience

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Full time, 220 days contracted position.
• Evening and weekend time may be required for attending and administering games.
• Occasional travel may be required to travel with the teams.
• Both indoor in an office environment and outdoors as needed for sporting and other events.
