EL PE Teacher
JOB TITLE: ELEMENTARY LEVEL PHYSICAL EDUCATION TEACHER
SUPERVISOR: Athletic Director and/or Level Principal
JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for the planning, instruction, supervision, and assessment of the elementary physical education program. Provides developmentally appropriate physical activity instruction that build fundamental movement skills, physical fitness, health awareness, and positive social behavior. Ensure a safe, structured, and engaging learning environment aligned with school standards and educational objectives.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Instructional Planning and Delivery
● Develop and implement grade appropriate physical education lessons aligned with curriculum standards
● Teach fundamental motor skills including coordination, balance, agility, strength and movement patterns
● Provide structured instruction that promotes physical literacy, teamwork, and lifelong fitness habits
● Maintain written lesson plans and instructional pacing guides
● Adapt instruction to meet diverse developmental and learning needs
Student Supervision and Classroom Management
● Maintain direct supervision of students during all instructional activities and transitions
● Establish and enforce safety procedures for equipment use and movement activities
● Implement clear behavior expectations and reinforce positive participation
● Maintain orderly routines for class entry, participation, and dismissal
● Use assessment data to adjust instruction
Program and Equipment Management
● Maintain organized storage and inventory of physical education equipment
● Inspect equipment regularly to ensure safe operating condition
● Prepare instructional spaces before and after class
● Submit equipment and supply request as needed
Safety and Compliance
● Implement established safety procedures in all physical education activities
● Monitor facilities for hazards and report unsafe conditions immediately
● Document injuries or incidents according to school procedures
● Ensure compliance with school policies and instructional standards
Professional Responsibilities
● Participate in required meetings, trainings, and professional development
● Collaborate with classroom teachers to support student development
● Maintain consistent communication with administration regarding program needs
● Perform additional duties assigned by school leadership
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS AND EVALUATION METRICS
Performance will be evaluated using measurable indicators of instructional effectiveness, safety, and program management.
Instructional Delivery
● Lesson plans prepared and implemented for 100% of scheduled classes
● Minimum 80% of instructional time engaged in structured physical activity
● Skill progression demonstrated by at least 80% of students across assessment period
Student Participation and Engagement
● Student participation rate of at least 95% during class activities
● Minimum two documented skill assessments per grading cycle
Safety and Supervision
● Continuous supervision of students during all activities
● Equipment inspections completed regularly with documented checks
● Injury and incident reports completed within required timeliness
Program Management
● Equipment inventory accuracy maintained at 95% or higher
● Instructional areas prepared and restored for 100% of classes
Professional Responsibilities
● Attendance at required meetings and professional development sessions: 100% unless excused
● Administrative communication response within 24 hours in at least 95% of instances
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
● Demonstrated ability to instruct elementary age students in physical activity and movement skills
● Ability to supervise groups of children in active environments
● Effective communication and classroom management skills
● Commitment to school mission and educational standards
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
● Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, or related field preferred
● Teaching certification or eligibility preferred
● Experience working with elementary age students
● Valid Texas Driver’s license
WORKING CONDITIONS
● Full school year instructional schedule
● Continuous movement including standing, walking, bending, and demonstrating physical activities
● Indoor and outdoor instructional environments
● Ability to lift, carry, and organize physical education equipment
