Traditional 2nd Grade

Introduction:

Hi, my name is Sarah Smith and I teach 2nd Grade Traditional at the Elementary Level campus. I love teaching the little ones and getting to know their families. It’s always fun when they come back and share  memories of the time spent with you. I am married and have two sons, and one daughter-in-law who are all graduates of IWA.

Education:

I graduated from Incarnate Word Academy with the Class of 1981. I have been teaching for 32 years.  I didn’t start teaching at IWA but have come full circle and will be starting my 12th year here.  I have a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and a Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction at TAMUCC (formerly CCSU).

My Teaching Philosophy:

Teaching is a calling and being at IWA is a blessing. Being surrounded by a community of faith, I feel  fortunate to have the opportunity to teach in an environment that reflects Jesus the Teacher. My hope is to instill in the children a love of learning and to be a light for others to love and follow Jesus.

A Day in my Classroom:

I try to model for my students a love of learning and a respect for each other. We work hard and we play even harder. They learn to make good choices and be an example for others. The children realize that learning never stops.  They also come to realize that they can always make someone else’s day a little brighter with their kindness.

Fun Facts:

  • I played a little basketball and softball in high school at IWA. I helped win a banner or two hanging in our gym.
  • I caught a trophy size 51” redfish on vacation in Florida one year (not the one you see in the pictures).
  • Am expecting my 1st grandchild this December.

Things I Enjoy:

I enjoy reading and watching movies. I love to be outdoors.  I like to play golf, fish, ride bikes, walk, and attend sporting events. I also like to travel. I was lucky enough to spend a summer in Switzerland as a teenager, visit London on Spring Break one year, ride horses and experience the awesome views of The Rocky Mountain National Park and Big Bend State Park. Then in 2019, my husband and I traveled to Augusta, Georgia to see the Masters Golf Tournament.
