Advanced Quantitative Reasoning, Algebra 1, Geometry, Pre-AP Geometry
Hello Angels,
My name is Barbara Wagnon and I teach Advanced Quantitative Reasoning, Algebra 1, Geometry, and Pre-AP Geometry at the High School Level.
Since 1999, I have been a Secondary math teacher. My teaching experience includes sixteen years in public education and the last five years in Catholic schools. Prior to 1999, I worked as a Certified Public Accountant primarily in the area of taxation.
When I was in my thirties, I was diagnosed with a very serious illness. After I recovered from my illness my priorities were no longer about what I could do for myself but what I could do for others, which is why I decided to become a teacher. I wanted a career where I could make a difference. I believe that teachers have the opportunity to share not only their knowledge but also share their love of learning with their students.
You may contact me at wagnonb@iwacc.org if you have any questions.
I recall what a priest told me once; “every one of my students God created and God loves.” It is my responsibility to treat students fairly and to take each student as they are.
In addition, as a teacher I have to realize that what worked last year, may not work this year and that I have to adjust my teaching style to what is best for my students and that is not always what is best for me.
Words I live by:
Albert Einstein's Quote " Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results."
Who Motivates Me:
I find motivation from several sources; but my motivation to be a better wife, mother, teacher, friend, or sister is driven by my desire to please God.
Fun Facts:
I like to attend rock concerts. The most notable would be the Rolling Stones and the Eagles. Another interesting fact, when I was four years old I had open heart surgery. The surgeon who performed it was Denton Cooley, who also was the first surgeon to implant a totally artificial heart.
Hobbies:
I like activities that involve being outside; swimming, walking, cycling, gardening. I used to play a lot of tennis but I have recently taken up the practice of yoga. I also enjoy entertaining, whether it be preparing a Holiday meal or hosting a dinner party.
What I love about IWA:
I have only been at IWA for a short time, but the students have been amazing. The students are very bright and so engaging. It has been a delightful three months. The administrators have also been very helpful and supportive. Everyone that I have met has been extremely gracious and welcoming. I am looking forward to the time when we can come together as a community at Mass.
