Robert Orta
Hello Angels,
My name is Robert Orta and I teach Algebra I, Pre-Algebra, Mathematics for Grade 6 at the Middle Level.
I was a math teacher for 20 years with the Corpus Christi ISD. During that time, I served as the math department chairperson at two middle schools. I have also provided professional development at the state level twice at the Conference for the Advancement of Mathematics (CAMT) in Dallas and San Antonio. I have worked as a part-time instructor with the Department for Adult Basic Education at Del Mar College where I taught math, science, and writing for 6 years.
Why I decided to become a teacher:
I decided to become a teacher mostly because it would allow me to work with younger students who I believed I could reach and make a difference in their lives.
You may contact me at ortar@iwacc.org if you have any questions.
Teaching Philosophy:
I believe that teaching should be fun for both the student and the teacher. I try to make my class experience enjoyable.
Words I live by:
I believe we should speak life when we interact with others. That's why I have adopted the following quote as my motto. “In every encounter, we either give life or we drain it; there is no neutral exchange” - Brennan Manning
Who motivates me:
I am motivated to be the role model my children expect me to be, and the son my parents prayed I would become.
Fun Facts:
I play several instruments including piano, guitar, bass guitar, and the ukulele.
Hobbies:
My hobbies include playing music, building robots, working in my wife's dog shop, coding, collecting vintage depression era glass, specifically, candy dishes. I worked at Rudy's BBQ for two years to learn to smoke briskets. I love collecting and listening to pre-1960 records on my record player.
What I love about IWA:
I love the ability to incorporate my faith into my work and work alongside people who share the faith. I especially love the students and parents I get to know along the way. Plus, I love the administrative team here at the ML!
