IWA Hosts "In Search of Earth's Secrets" Exhibit

Incarnate Word Academy was host to the “In Search of Earth’s Secrets” exhibit taking our students on a journey through the mystery, history, and future of Earth.

The exhibit made its way to IWA thanks to our very own Mrs. Suraida Nanez-James who is an IWA Middle and High School Level science teacher and helped develop the exhibit as a member of the non-profit organization, Gulf Reach Institute.

“In Search of Earth’s Secrets” is a special project that brings the research ship JOIDES Resolution (Joint Oceanographic Institutions for Deep Earth Sampling, also known as the JR) and its exciting science to communities around the United States. The exhibit allows audiences to enjoy hands-on experiences while learning about exciting science topics such as earthquakes, volcanoes, and the extinction of the dinosaurs.

The JR is one of the scientific drilling ships used by the International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP), an international, multi-drilling platform research program. The vessel uses a variety of technologies to drill and core the seafloor, the cores/samples from which are then used by researchers to learn the history of Earth.
