ANGEL OUTREACH WEEK SPARKS AWARENESS

Our first ever Middle Level Angel Outreach Week kicked off on March 18th. Two Middle Level Angels, Allie Salazar and Alexa Reyes, organized the events of Angel Outreach to spread awareness to middle level students about opportunities to serve our community.

Guest speakers from an array of organizations spoke with students last week, including presentations from Team Luke Hope For Minds, The Rise School of Corpus Christi, Ronald McDonald House Charities, West Side Helping Hand, as well as a showing of "Until 20" from the Triumph Over Kid Cancer Organization.

We can't thank these organizations enough for visiting with our Angels and helping them become more aware of opportunities to serve our community, opening their hearts and minds to important issues, and showing them what's possible when people band together for the benefit of others.

CELEBRATING 148TH ANNIVERSARY

March 19th marked a very special anniversary for our school. The good news of Incarnate Word Academy came about through the faith, courage, and dedication of the Sisters of the Incarnate Word and Blessed Sacrament. Just two weeks after the sisters arrived in Corpus Christi, on March 19, 1871, they prepared their modest home to function as a school.

We say THANK YOU for the great love of God in your hearts and the commitment to the teaching mission of the Church.

STUDENTS PRESENT SPEECHES IN THE MOON THEATRE

On March 19th, the Middle Level Speech Classes presented speeches for emcee auditions in The Moon Theatre (otherwise known as the speech classroom). Public speaking is an important skill for students to practice - maintaining eye contact, speaking concisely, having good posture, and speaking with enthusiasm are all important components of becoming a well-spoken young professional.

MONTESSORI FIFTH GRADE COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT

Montessori Elementary fifth grade students, Grace Vela, Aubree Deleon, Leighton Lawhon, and Sarah Cory, created a campus-wide community service activity to collect donations for Ark Assessment Center & Emergency Shelter for Youth. These students devised this plan on their own, with absolutely no help or suggestions from teachers or parents. These Angels delivered the donations to the Ark and are thankful to fellow students for their donations to this community project and for making it a success.

MONTESSORI SQUARE ROOT BOARD

Montessori student Grace Vela works with her square root board to solve problems involving large numbers. Grace had this to say about her work:

"I am working on finding the square root of large numbers using our Montessori materials. It took a lot of hard work to get here. I started off by finding the square root of small numbers, and I am now finding answers to larger numbers. For instance, in this picture I found the square root of 3,136 is 56. I am now practicing finding answers that are three digits. This is one of my favorite works in my Montessori environment."
