Student, faculty, and staff safety is paramount in every decision we make. Everyone’s continued commitment and partnership is needed to maintain the safest possible school environment. Some important reminders about our illness policy at IWA:

Keep students home who are experiencing a fever of 100.0 degrees or higher or have vomiting or diarrhea. Students, faculty, or staff who develop any of the above symptoms need to stay home until they are fever-free for 24 hours without the aid of fever-reducing medications.

If your student tests positive for COVID-19, please notify school administration as soon as possible. He/ she is required to stay isolated at home for 5 days and may return to school on day 6, as long as symptoms have improved.  It is important to submit proof of the positive test or diagnosis in the form of either a physician’s note or, if using a home test, photo of the positive test with the student’s name and date of testing written on the test. This will ensure that the absences are counted as medical.

Incarnate Word Academy offers free COVID-19 testing to all students, faculty and staff on request. If you would like to have your student tested, contact our school nurse, Lisa Matl, at 361-883-0857 extension 178 or matll@iwacc.org. A signed permission slip signed by a parent or guardian will be required.

During times of high COVID-19 transmission rates, illness policies may be adjusted to require a physician’s note or proof of a negative COVID-19 test for any illness absence due to COVID-19 symptoms.
