Religious Studies

Hello! I’m Mrs. Hynes and I teach Religion III and IV at the High School Level. I have a BA in religious studies and Spanish from Our Lady of the Lake University and an MA in theology from the Catholic Theological Union in Chicago.

After earning my degrees, I moved to Mexico and worked there for six years. I was able to write for a theological magazine and teach at an international high school. As much fun as this was, I was drawn back to Texas and I have been teaching at Incarnate Word Academy since 2017.

Throughout this time, I have continued taking education courses and just recently finished a course with Notre Dame on integrating faith and science in the classroom. I am also a graduate of IWA, and it gives me great pleasure to have my son attend the elementary.

Welcome to the ANGEL FAMILY!

I love different forms of prayer: traditional memorized prayers, Lectio Divina, meditation, song, contemplative, prayer through art.

In general, people communicate in different ways and it is important that students be exposed to different forms of communication with God. Students also need to be actively involved in their education, and I try to accomplish this by open dialogue and project-based learning with an emphasis on reflection and application.

Fun Facts:

  • I know four languages.
  • I studied biblical archeology for a semester in Greece and Turkey.
  • Via my son, I am becoming a lego master.
  • At times, my house is like a musical. (Really, sometimes we sing everything we want to say.)

Hobbies and Talents:

  • Singing and dancing (I used to compete in both)
  • Cooking (especially with food I grow)
  • Gardening (which has become a family activity)
  • Reading/writing (I’m actually working on writing a book)
  • Outdoor activities (running, hiking, riding bikes, camping, playing with our animals...)
  • Travel (I love to learn about different cultures)
