English 2, English 3, English 3 Pre-AP, Court Systems, Business Law

Hello. I am Catherine (Cathy) Tyree. I am a former attorney who discovered that my true ministry is teaching English to high school students through the Education for MInistry program sponsored by the University of the South at Sewanee. I know, pretty specific, but I love my job, and I love my students, and that has not changed in 13 years. This is my 5th year at IWA, and I feel blessed to be here.  I also coach the Mock Trial team.

As for education, my undergraduate degree in liberal arts is from the University of St. Thomas in Houston, my MA in linguistics from the University of Houston, my law degree from the University of Houston Law Center, and my MS in education from TAMUCC.

My husband and I have two grown children, one daughter-in-law, and one granddaughter. Our son and his family live outside of D.C., working for the EPA and the DOE. Our daughter works in community development at an elementary school in Nashville and a new public park near her school. Interesting personal fact: Darla Montano, the assistant principal at IWA, was our daughter’s outstanding fifth grade teacher! I love sailing, hiking in the mountains, cooking, reading, and music (listening - I am NOT a musician).

And I welcome you to the family of IWA!
