Elementary Level Principal

Hello Angels,

My name is Dr. Pamela Carrillo and I am the Principal at the Elementary Level.

I graduated from high school at Gregory-Portland High School. Go Wildcats! I hold a B.A. from St. Mary's University in San Antonio, TX in Multinational Organization Studies in Spanish. Go Rattlers! I hold a M.S. in Education from Texas A&M University, Corpus Christi. Go Ders! I am currently in the dissertation phase of a PhD in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Reading from Texas A&M University, Corpus Christi.

I taught Spanish at the secondary school at a public school and right here at our Middle Level. At the beginning of my third year of teaching here, I transitioned into the role of Assistant Principal at the Elementary Level. The following year I was promoted to the Principal's position.

I believe that education is one of the single most important pieces of a person’s life. Your education continues throughout your life and it is up to each individual person to decide how far they want to push his or her education. It is my belief that with the right person (teacher, parent, relative, coach, etc) behind each individual student guiding them in the right direction, every student can be successful in their education and well as personal development.

Fun Facts:

I am a first-generation college graduate. My family instilled in me the value and importance of an education at a very young age. My maternal grandfather was a famous Tejano musician. He was the first to coin the term "Tejano" in music. My paternal grandfather was a member of the Texas House of Representatives. I try to live my life so that I too can leave a lasting legacy for the generation to come.

Hobbies:

I love to read and listen to audio books. I enjoy listening to podcasts and music. My favorite music is Tejano music. My favorite exercise is Zumba. On occasion, I foster dogs but I fall in love with them too easily. I ended up adopting the last dog I fostered.

What I love about IWA:

The #1 reason I work at IWA is for our Catholic identity. It is a blessing to provide students with an opportunity to be educated in a Christ-centered atmosphere. The faculty, staff and families form a small community that is a pleasure to be a part of. I was introduced to IWA by my youngest brother who is a 2017 graduate. He attended the middle and high school levels. In him, I saw a grace and polish that shined bright. I knew that I wanted my own child to attend this school and have the same opportunity as my brother. It was a blessing to be hired to work here the summer before my child was to start Pre-K3. We were able to start our IWA journey together.
