Incarnate Word Academy students are encouraged to grow through a variety of extracurricular clubs and activities. Our Mission Team helps students lay the foundation of their faith, our coaches help students to grow in leadership and life skills, and our club sponsors encourage growth in creativity, imagination, and exploration.

Darla Montaño

Assistant Principal of Curriculum and Instruction

I have been an educator for 35 years. I have been a teacher, volleyball, basketball, track and cheerleader coach. I have sponsored many different clubs and activities. I began teaching in Killeen, Texas after I graduated from Texas A&M University College Station. After 5 years in Killeen I found my way to Corpus Christi. I taught and coached at Haas Middle School for 8 years. I then moved to St. James Episcopal School where I was a teacher and an administrator for 14 years. I have been at Incarnate Word Academy for 8 years.

Being with students is my happy place. I enjoy watching students grow throughout their high school years and beyond. I can truly say that I enjoy coming to work each and every day.

When I am not at school I enjoy spending time on the water. I like being on a boat or going to the beach.
