History and Purpose
The Incarnate Word Academy Foundation was established in 1989 by the Sisters of the Incarnate Word and Blessed Sacrament. The Foundation’s purpose is to provide adequate funding for scholarships and educational development for Incarnate Word Academy in Corpus Christi, Texas into the future. It serves as a stable, ongoing way of assuring tuition assistance for years to come by providing an entity for receiving and managing the contributions of donors according to their intent.
The IWA Foundation is committed to the following:
- Scholarships and tuition assistance grants
- Faculty professional growth
- Education for the future
Board of Trustees; Responsibilities
The IWA Foundation has a Board of Trustees comprised of the current elected leadership of the Congregation. The responsibilities of the Trustees, headed by Sister Annette Wagner, IWA Foundation President, include making the decisions on the annual budget, determining the amount of money to be disbursed to IWA for tuition assistance and educational development. Regularly scheduled meetings are held to plan and approve the budget and oversee investments in a manner that allows growth of the Foundation.
Significance of Contributions
Inviting the school community, past parents, friends, and benefactors to partner with the Sisters and the Foundation in providing a quality education in a Catholic school environment has been a blessing to all concerned — the Sisters, the IWA family, and the larger community.
Catholic education produces strong leaders in the Church and in the community. Families grow stronger in building faith and loving relationships. The Sisters are enriched by their service, prayer, and participation in the IWA faith community. Through their support of the Foundation and scholarships, donors are provided opportunities to practice Christian stewardship and love, and to make a difference in their own lives and in the lives of others.
Scholarships and tuition assistance enable Incarnate Word Academy to recruit a talented and diverse student body. Donations are made to the general scholarship fund or to an endowed scholarship, which may be designated in memory or in honor of a loved one.
An endowed scholarship is a permanent fund requiring a minimum gift of $10,000 with an option of a three to five year funding period. Once established, a portion of the investment earnings is distributed annually to an IWA student. Donors are encouraged to continue endowed scholarship contributions, thereby increasing the distribution amount of awards.
