Library Mission

The Incarnate Word Academy Middle and High School Level Library
Media Center supports students and teachers in the ongoing formation of the Christian person by providing access to a collection of wide-ranging, balanced, current, and validated resources-both print and non-print-to facilitate and encourage growth in faith and intellectual reason. The library aims to empower all students to be effective, faithful, and critical users of information resources — advocating enjoyment, enrichment, and the comprehensive understanding of literature.

LaQuita Hilzinger received her Master of Library Science degree from the University of Texas at Austin in 1997. After graduating, she worked as a children’s librarian, director of reference services, and library collection manager. She joined the staff of Incarnate Word Academy in November 2014. She is dedicated to collaborating with teachers, parents, and students to make the library an integral part of the educational process and encourage lifelong learning. If you have questions, feel free to contact the library at 883-0857 ext. 124.

The library provides students and faculty with a variety of print and non-print resources. Our collection includes more than 10,000 items including books, e-books, videos, magazines, and sound recordings as well as access to seven computer work stations.

The library catalog as well is available online so that students may search our collection, place holds and check out Follett e-books from home. The students also have access to numerous academic databases through the Angel eBRARY. The databases provide around-the-clock access to reference material, full-text periodical articles, audio clips, historical video archives, college prep resources, scholarship information, and career guidance.

Library Schedule

The library hours are from 7:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. on school days.

Library Guidelines

The library is open all day for students to research and check out books. Books are due within two weeks if not renewed.

Accelerated Reader

The Accelerated Reader (AR) Enterprise program promotes independent reading and documents students’ growth in reading comprehension. To participate in the program, students choose an Accelerated Reader book by looking for the orange AR spine label in the library. Reading level is indicated on book spines with colored stickers, which expedites and simplifies the selection process for students. Books may be read from home or the library.

Students may take tests in their classrooms with their teacher's approval. Testing is not available in the library.

To look up a book title for AR test availability, students and parents may go to the Accelerated Reader website. Once a title is located, the test number, book level and AR points will appear.
