Alumni Happening: Rosie Collin '72 Appointed to the Office of Small Business Assistance Advisory Task Force

On September 8, 2014, Lt. Governor Dewhurst appointed Rosie Collin, of Corpus Christi, to the Office of Small Business Assistance Advisory Task Force for a term to expire on June 14, 2015.

Senator Juan “Chuy” Hinojosa issued the following statement:

“I am pleased with the appointment of Rosie Collin to the Office of Small Business Assistance Advisory Task Force.  Small business and entrepreneurs are the backbone to our economy, they are job creators.

This Task Force will make recommendations to the legislature that will improve the development, growth, and vitality of small businesses throughout Texas.

Rosie Collin is experienced and knowledgeable of small business issues and their importance to our economy.”

During the 83rd Session, Senator Hinojosa passed H.B. 3714, which created the Task Force, to improve the development, growth, and vitality of small businesses. The Task Force will advise the governor on small business promotional opportunities; recommend improvements in state-funded programs; identify state laws, programs, and policies that may need change; and work on special projects assigned by the governor.

Rosie Collin of Corpus Christi is the public affairs & community relations coordinator for CITGO.  She is the former president and CEO of the Corpus Christi Hispanic Chamber of Commerce as well as former executive director of the Ingleside Local Redevelopment Authority.  She is a member of the Work Force Solutions of the Coastal Bend and the West Side Business Association.  She also is a volunteer at the Girl Scouts of Greater South Texas, Habitat for Humanity, and serves as a mentor for the Corpus Christi Independent School District.  Collin received her bachelor’s degree from Texas State University and her master’s degree from Texas A&M Corpus Christi.

Senator Juan "Chuy" Hinojosa proudly represents the counties of Nueces, Jim Wells, Brooks, and Hidalgo (part). Senator Hinojosa serves as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Intergovernmental Relations, Vice-Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, a member of the Select Committee on Transportation Funding, Joint-Interim Committee to Study Water Desalination, and serves on the Senate Committees on Natural Resources, Criminal Justice, Agriculture, Rural Affairs and Homeland Security, as well as the Legislative Budget Board (LBB), the Sunset Advisory Commission and Chairman of the Subcommittee Studying the Impact of Mexico's Energy Reforms on Texas.
